8 Steps to Putting A Disaster Recovery Plan Into Place

We live in a world that relies heavily on technology. This is a fact most of us don't think twice about but when threatened with the loss of that technology where does that leave you? And more importantly, where does it leave your business. IT support and IT services can be provided regularly, however if a disaster were to strike your data would not be safe without a disaster strategy.

When a technology disaster strikes it can ruin work, delete irreplaceable data and ultimately can put a company out of business. Additionally, if your business has sensitive information that belongs to your clients you are putting them at risk as well.

Preparing for the worst is not easy for anyone to do. Here is a list of the top things you should consider when putting together a disaster recovery plan.

  1. Review all potential disasters and their ramifications on your business. IT disasters can be cause by, natural disasters, employee accident or malice, hackers or computer viruses, power failures and more.
  2. Organize the disasters into an order from the disaster with the worst repercussions to the one with the least.
  3. Use this list to work with Chicago IT consultants to determine a plan of action to avoid these disasters.
  4. Put safety measures into place such as, surge protectors, antivirus programs, employee reviews and limitations, data back up and off site storage.
  5. Implement disaster detection by educating employees on what to look for in a potential disaster and also put computer monitoring in place to warn you of a potential safety breech or disaster.
  6. Back-up data in a thoughtful way. Do not hold on to too much information. Compress files and install programs to reduce redundancy.
  7. Train employees correctly in order to avoid data loss. The better they educated they are on safe working practices; the less likely it is that they will accidently cause a loss of data or IT emergency.
  8. Hire a team of Chicago IT consultants to provide IT support and IT services. Having them in place to monitor your safety will take pressure off you and your employees and allow you to focus on what you do best, your job.

An IT disaster can happen at anytime. It's not something to take lightly or to joke about. Protecting your business before an IT disaster strikes is all you can really hope for
